Karachi: Bahria Town is excited to announce the birth of a Baby Giraffe at DanZoo, Bahria Town Karachi. It’s the first-ever birth of a Southern Giraffe in Pakistan.
Alex, as named by Danzoo staff, weighs 147 lbs. and stood six feet three inches tall at birth, making the Baby Giraffe the tallest calf born at DanZoo, is already showing signs of being curious, playful and sweet.
Since the birth of Baby Giraffe on 18th May, 2022, senior management and veterinary team has received congratulatory messages from all over the country. The veterinary and reproduction departments of various universities and zoos have shown interest in learning from the success and experience of Danzoo team.
“Every animal birth we have at the DanZoo is exciting. I’m delighted that we now have a young calf to represent his vulnerable species,” Col.(R) Shahid, head of DanZoo, said. “Bahria town Karachi is providing top of the line living conditions, supplements and husbandry management through a thoroughly professional veterinary team and caretakers.”
Last birth recorded in Pakistan was in 1966 but that was of reticulated species of Giraffe.
Southern giraffes are native to South Africa, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. The animal can reach a height of 17 feet and a weight of 2,700 pounds.
