Bahria Town Karachi celebrated Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day with a flag hoisting ceremony at its 100-meter-tall Flag Pole. Staff, guests, residents and dignitaries gathered to watch the national flag rise, followed by the national anthem and remarks honoring the sacrifices behind Pakistan’s independence.
Solar-Hybrid Vehicle Prototype Unveiled
Immediately after the ceremony, Bahria Town Karachi’s management unveiled a prototype Solar Hybrid Vehicle. It is the first initiative of its kind by a real estate developer, and a notable step in sustainable innovation.
The in-house project converts a conventional 796cc petrol vehicle into a fully electric one with integrated solar charging.
Key specifications
- Motor: 10 kW electric motor with 72V drive controller (replacing the conventional engine)
- Battery: 16 kW lithium battery pack
- Range: 130–150 km per charge
- Solar assist: Rooftop 585W solar panel
- Fuuel se: Zero, down from roughly 200 liters per month
- Maintenance: Estimated 70% lower costs than the conventional vehicle
The initiative reflects Bahria Town Karachi’s commitment to sustainability, indigenization of technology and reduced reliance on fossil fuels, in keeping with the spirit of self-reliance at the heart of Independence Day.
Independence Day Celebrations Continue
Festivities run from the evening of 14 August through the following two days, with concerts, activities and light shows for residents and visitors:
- Live performance by Sangat Bros at Central Park Amphitheatre
- Independence Day festivals at DanZoo and Chirpy Park
- 3-Day Grand Azaadi Fest at Carnival, featuring Ayesha Omar and Saleem Javed
- Fountain and laser show at the Bahria Dancing Fountain
